Investing in long-term energy-saving

Investing in long-term
energy-saving

Think long term to make your home even more
energy-efficient

All of these ideas require an initial outlay, but your investment could soon pay for itself in gas and electricity savings.

Start by re-investing the money you've already saved by making smaller changes around the home.

Insulate your home

  • Because heat rises, insulating your loft is one of the simplest and most effective ways to save energy.
  • Loft insulation acts like a blanket to trap rising heat. Without it you could lose as much as 25%# of your heat through the roof. It can reduce your annual energy bill by around £145 Find out more about insulating your home with M&S Energy.

Invest in a condensing boiler

  • If your boiler is more than 15 years old, it may be time to invest in a more efficient replacement. A new condensing boiler won't let as much heat escape, making it around 35%# cheaper to run than an older model. Better still, upgrade to modern controls and you'll save even more on heating bills.

Install double glazing

  • Fitting double glazing can cut heat loss by up to 50%#, saving you as much as £140# a year on heating costs. A cheaper alternative is to install secondary glazing panels. Like double glazing, the panels will trap air and insulate your home, but they cost less and you can fit them yourself.

Buy energy-efficient appliances

  • When it's time to replace an appliance, think about energy-efficiency ratings. Choosing electrical goods rated A or above is the easiest way to guarantee lower running costs. Don't wait till your old model is past its best though. Replacing an old fridge freezer with an A-rated model now could avoid costly repairs and reduce your annual energy bill by around £50.#
  • M&S only sells home appliances that are A-rated or better. Visit marksandspencer.com to view our full range.
